Article: Home Energy Audit-The first step to save Energy and Money
Home Energy Audit is a simple listing and calculation of energy usage patterns within the home. An audit can throw light on two main ways to save money:-
1. Reduce Energy Consumption
2. Reduce Energy Wastage
An energy audit need not be a complicated exercise. It can be as simple as listing down the various appliances in the house, calculating their energy consumption and also hours of use within a day. Cost of usage can then be calculated for one year.
The marketplace can then be searched to find newer , more energy efficient versions of the same appliances. If there are significant reductions in energy consumption, it would be worthwhile to replace the old appliance with a new one. Additional features are a bonus of course.
Usage patterns can also throw light on how energy wastage can be reduced. Simple electronic control modules can then be introduced to reduce wastage, by cutting of power when not required.
Sample Energy Consumption Calculation (Assuming cost of 1 unit = INR. 7/-)
|Fan||80||14||(80*14)/1000 = 1.12 Units||1.12 * 365 = 408.8 Units||408.8*7 = INR 2861.6|
